538 Kingsday
For the national Dutch holiday: Kingsday 2022, we teamed up with Radio Station 538 to customize 135 pairs of Air Force 1’s. These Air Force 1’s were as a gift for well-known artists and their teams of 538.
This was the first project where we had to customize and alter over 100 pairs of sneakers. Buying and managing to keep track of all the shoe sizes was probably the hardest part of this project. Most of the shoes were purchased on the StockX platform, and pinning down all the pairs was harder than we thought. There is a LOT of demand for these air force 1 tripple whites.
The first step into this project was removing all the laces. These needed to be removed because we were replacing the eye stays and lace tips of the sneakers. Check the video below to see how we attached the lace tips.
To incorporate some of the colors of the 538 brand into these Air Force 1’s, we painted the primary green and purple colors on the back of the sneakers. These specific sneakers needed four layers of paint before the paint covered the way it should. To get rid of a matte finish to the colors we also added a transparent finish to give the painted parts a nice shine.
Adding the primary colors to the back was not enough to give the 538 feel we wanted it to. To add to the 538 brand identity we also attached a new label on the tongue which has the 538 logo embroided. Curious how we stitched it to the tongue? Check the video below.
To make sure the artists and their teams received the set quality standard we maintain at VIJZ, we made some special packaging. We used the original boxes the shoes came in but altered them to have our VIJZ and the 538 logo on top.
To get an even better unboxing experience, we also added a dust bag to the packaging. This dust bag also had the 538 logo embroided.
Right on time for the artists and their teams to receive their sneakers, we delivered the sneakers a day before one of the biggest festivals present on Kingsday. All 135 boxes were delivered backstage so they could be given to the artists and their teams before they had to go onstage.
