A passion ignited
Sam van IJzendoorn’s passion for sneakers sparked a transformative journey. What started as a fervent interest in collecting and restoring sneakers quickly evolved into a deep-seated vision. Driven by an obsession with sneaker culture, Sam envisioned a future where shoes were more than just footwear—they were personal statements of art and identity.
2017
Craftsmanship began
Sam took a pivotal step, enrolling in a shoemaking course that would lay the foundation for a new chapter. Armed with new skills and a relentless drive, he rented a modest studio. This was where the magic began—transforming raw materials into bespoke sneakers. Each pair was meticulously crafted, reflecting Sam’s commitment to artistry and quality. This period was marked by tireless experimentation and an unwavering quest for perfection.
2018
First bespoke sneaker made
This year marked a significant milestone with the unveiling of Sam’s first bespoke sneaker. This creation was more than a product; it was a testament to the artistry and innovation that defined VIJZ. It embodied the meticulous craftsmanship and personal touch that Sam had dedicated years to perfecting. This was not merely a sneaker—it was a piece of wearable art that captured the essence of VIJZ’s vision.
2019
Expanded the team
Tom joined VIJZ as an enthusiastic intern, diving into the world of shoemaking. His eagerness and aptitude quickly elevated him from intern to a core team member. Tom’s dual expertise as a shoemaker and graphic designer added a new dimension to VIJZ, blending craftsmanship with visual creativity. This expansion marked a new era of collaboration and innovation, enriching the team with fresh perspectives and skills.
2023
Relocated to scale
The year marked a big change as VIJZ moved to a new, 500 square-meter studio in Tiel. This wasn’t just a new location but a fresh start for creativity. The larger space became a lively center for new ideas and innovation, encouraging the team to explore new possibilities and grow.

Back to the roots
VIJZ made a conscious shift back to its core passion—crafting exceptional, wearable art.
